Notes
Serenity was last seen leaving the parking  lot of Black Hills Children's Home Society, on February 3rd, 2019 at approximately 11am. She was seen walking over the cattle guard out of the parking lot and headed north on South Rockerville Road towards Teepee Gulch area. The woman who saw her leaving reported it to the staff and then drove down the road to see if she could see her and within 3-5 minutes there was no sign of Serenity on the road in any direction. Serenity was wearing a purple tank top, a gray long sleeved shirt with flowers on it, dark stone washed jeans, and black snow boots. Prior to leaving the Children's Home, Serenity had been playing in the gym with three other girls when one of the other girls created a disturbance, leaving one staff member to watch the other three. At that time Serenity left the gym and went out the door at approximately 10:45am. The staff member called for assistance, unable to leave the two girls unattended and the relief staff searched the area of the Children's home and surrounding area but when they could not find her they called 911 and reported her missing to the Pennington County dispatch at 12:26 PM. The first deputy arrived on scene at 12:46 PM and by 1:16 PM Pennington County Search and Rescue was called on scene. The search went on through that evening until 10:30 PM with 35 people searching. By mid day there was freezing drizzle, light sleet mixed with light snow and the temperature was approximately -9 Celcius (15 fahrenheit). By late afternoon it dropped down to -15 celsius (5F)  There was no sign of Serenity anywhere in the area. No footprints, no sign of her going in any direction. Searches continued on the 4th and 5th and was reclassified as a recovery search by 5PM on the 5th due to the cold temperatures and her not having any winter clothing.  Despite numerous searches with SAR Ground crews, handheld heat sensors, K9 life scent and cadaver dogs, helicopter searches there has been zero sign of Serenity. Multiple Cadaver Dog Teams have picked up a cadaver scent in the area however, there has been nothing to confirm that it was connected to Serenity Dennard. The search is still active and the case on going.
